The AUSA San Diego Chapter Continues Forward AUSA San Diego Chapter re-opens in honor of our Past President Dean Mallires

The morning sun cast long shadows across Admiral Baker as current and new members of the Association of the United States Army San Diego Chapter gathered in April 2026. The meeting carried both the weight of loss and the promise of renewal—a bittersweet moment that would define the chapter’s path forward. The absence of Dean Mallires was felt deeply by everyone present. His leadership had been the cornerstone of the chapter’s activities, and his unexpected passing had left members uncertain about their future. Yet, as Acting President Joe Boscacci called the meeting to order, it became clear that Dean’s legacy would not be forgotten. “We’re here today not just to mourn what we’ve lost, but to honor what Dean built,” Boscacci addressed the assembled group. The faces around the room—some familiar veterans of the chapter, others newcomers drawn by the organization’s mission—reflected a shared determination to carry forward the work that had meant so much to their departed president. The discussion that followed was both practical and heartfelt. New members introduced themselves, sharing their military backgrounds and their reasons for joining the AUSA community. Longtime members spoke of Dean’s vision for the chapter, his dedication to supporting soldiers and their families, and his unwavering commitment to the Army’s values. As the meeting progressed, it became evident that Dean’s influence had created something lasting. The chapter’s foundation was solid, built on relationships he had fostered and programs he had championed. The renewal they sought wasn’t about starting over—it was about building upon the strong groundwork he had established. By the meeting’s end, the path forward was clear. The San Diego Chapter would continue its mission with renewed purpose, carrying Dean Mallires’ memory as both inspiration and guide. The torch had been passed, and in the capable hands of Acting President Boscacci and the dedicated membership, the chapter’s future looked bright. The gathering at Admiral Baker marked not an ending, but a new beginning—one that would honor the past while embracing the challenges and opportunities ahead.
